Bruce and Joy
in the delightful tasting room
Twilight
Vineyards consist of an eight
hectare Clevedon property,
situated above the valley
floor in the bountiful
picturesque Clevedon Valley -
just 1 kilometre from Clevedon
Village. The vineyard was
founded in 1996 by proprietor
Bruce Peart. Twilight now
produces 3500 cases per year.
When Bruce
first began, Clevedon was a
relatively new wine-growing
district and to ascertain the
suitability of the grapes
produced on the vineyard,
fruit was originally sold to
an established winery. The
winery subsequently won awards
with wine made from the
Twilight Vineyard's fruit. The
vineyard's proven record for
producing quality grapes
motivated the Peart’s to have
the wine made under their own
label - Twilight Vineyards.
The emphasis
is on growing the best quality
fruit to produce only quality
wines. Every care is taken to
ensure optimum quality of the
fruit at harvest time. All the
grapes are hand-picked.
The first
plantings were made in 1996
and what began as a hobby,
soon became an all-consuming
passion that has taken over
their lives.
The Peart’s
progressed from growing and
supplying other wineries, to
producing wine under their own
label, with their first
commercial vintage in 2001.
Bruce is very
much a hands-on operator and
can be found in the vineyard
most days, absolutely devoted
to getting the best possible
fruit for their wines.
His wife Joy
officially joined the Twilight
team in March 2003 and is now
an enthusiastic advocate for
the Twilight brand.
Johnny joined
the Twilight Vineyards at the
beginning of June 2008.
The young
Hong Kong born gentleman found
his passion for wine when he
studied hotel and events
management in Switzerland.
After completing his degree,
he decided to go to Hawke’s
Bay in New Zealand to further
his study of Viticulture and
Winemaking. He gained his
first wine award after three
months study in Hawke’s Bay,
winning a Silver Award and was
a Runner Up in a wine
competition with his student
wine.
After working
in some of the most renowned
wineries in New Zealand,
Johnny decided to develop his
own wine with his own style
from his own vineyard and own
winery.
The
opportunity came when he met
Bruce in the Clevedon
vineyard. After hours and
hours of conversation on
topics from World War Two to
politics, the two men soon
realized they had interests in
common and formed a bond. This
has resulted in them working
together
Following
Bruce’s retirement decision,
Johnny is now responsible of
the day-to-day operation and
future marketing of the
Twilight Vineyards. He is
committed to continue the
Twilight brand and fulfill
Bruce and Joy’s dream of
producing some of the best
quality wine in the region and
developing the brand to a
world acclaimed wine label. |
