Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions

The team at Wine Cellar have put together some useful frequently asked questions to help you when purchasing wine from our online store.

Is Wine Cellar an independent New Zealand company?
Yes. Wine Cellar is a New Zealand company proudly owned and operated by Canterbury wine trader, Jeff Brown. Along with access to some of the best New Zealand wines for sale, the Website provide information referring to festival events, wine growing regions, buyer's guides and general tips and advice to enhance your New Zealand wine experience.

I'm looking for a particular Kiwi wine that isn't on your site - can you get it for me?
It is possible for us to try and source a certain wine upon request. You will need to supply as much information as possible via our Contact Us page. We will then search for the product and source the best deal for you. If we find it, we'll quote you a price with no obligation to buy.

Are my personal details safe with your company?
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Wine Cellar will NOT solicit your email address or any other details you provide to us with any other persons and/or companies other than the wine distributor and/or delivery company.

Is it safe to order online using my credit card?
Yes. The professional team at Wine Cellar use secure and confidential payment methods to ensure your security and privacy. When using the Order Page you enter a secure order form. This means that any data you provide will be encrypted by our secure server, meaning only OUR server can read your details. Encryption results in the information you provide being scrambled in such a way that only our server can read it. Wine Cellar uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) which is the leading industry standard for processing a secure transaction over the Internet.

How can I tell if an Order Page is secure?
You can check to see if a document on your browser is from a secure server by checking the status of the security icon provided by your browser. For example, in Microsoft Internet Explorer a "padlock" icon is shown while Netscape Navigator uses an icon in the lower left corner of the window, which appears as a solid "key" symbol.

How much wine can I bring into New Zealand as a visitor?
All goods brought to New Zealand are subject to the control of Customs. Alcoholic beverage allowances state that you are permitted to bring into New Zealand 4.5 litres of wine or 4.5 litres of beer, 1 bottle containing not more than 1125ml of spirits, liqueur, or other spirituous beverages. Quantities imported in excess of the allowances, or that are housed in containers greater than the maximum stipulated bottle size, are liable for Customs charges.

What is the legal age for drinking wine in New Zealand?
New Zealand Liquor Law states that a person must be aged 18 years or over to purchase wine or any other alcoholic beverage.

What makes one wine more expensive than another?
There are certain factors to consider when pricing wine. How the wine is produced, the origin of the wine (some vineyards are small and unique) and demand for specific grape varieties

What is an organic wine?
Many conscientious wine producers are making every effort to minimise the use of chemicals in their vineyards. Organic viticulture is different to normal vineyard practices, organic vineyards must adhere to strict regulations regarding weed and grass control as well as disease and pest management.
