A single vineyard wine, using fruit from a small parcel on our Blue Rock vineyard. A very small crop of Abel, Dijon and Pommard clone Pinot Noir was picked in mid April.
Prior to harvest, the fruit displayed black forest and violet aromatics with good acidity. After primary fermentation the wine was racked to 1/3 new oak where a full malo-lactic fermentation was initiated. After aging for 14 months in medium toast Vosges oak, the wine was then fined with egg whites prior to bottling.
Garnet in colour, the wine displays vibrant aromatics of dark chocolate, black cherry, forest fruits, wood spice and creamy, caramelised notes. Rich on the palate, with flavours that build in the mouth – showing the classic Pinot Noir ‘peacock’s tail’ – the Blue Rock Pinot Noir is rich, with intense fruit, complex and long. The wine finishes with a silky, elegant texture, balanced acidity and fine tannins; demonstrating cellaring ability of 5 years plus.
